Ultrasound Guided Procedure
Ultrasound Guided Procedure
Ultrasound is a technology that uses high-frequency sound waves to provide real-time images of internal body structures. Although this imaging technique is most commonly used by physicians to monitor pregnancy progress, experts took advantage of using this technique in performing various other procedures because it is a safe, non-invasive technique.
Radiologists commonly perform these ultrasound-guided procedures. It involves:
- Collection of fluid in joints, tendon sheaths, muscles, cysts and soft-tissue masses
- Collections of abscesses
- Ultrasound-Guided peripheral nerve blocks/perineural injections
- Lavage and aspiration of tendon calcifications
- Fine-needle aspiration and biopsy
- Retrieval of foreign body
